Let us arise

Come back when summer rolls me round,
When cold stars shake in empty skies,
And when the last blue of the sea-wind dies.

I heard a voice from far beyond the sea,
A song that lingered in the broken hills.

The sea is calm, it said, the waves are smooth as glass.
Let us arise and go, and chase the mermaids from the foam,
Come let us  sail in silence till our blood is drunk with dreams.

No ship before us ever tried to cross this bitter sea,
But we are lonely and we know the end of love,
We know the end of all the wild and broken songs.

Let us go then, and sail to where the wind is still
And watch the white rose of the moon unfold
Amid the dark fields of a starless sky.
